The health of our planet and its ecosystems is under threat.
Society and the economy have been waking up to the damage caused by the agricultural industry and unsustainable fishing.
Adopting a plant-based lifestyle and eating is probably the best answer anyone can give to help preserve the planet and the environment.

It is essential to adopt a plant-based diet to feed a growing global population, progressively eliminating our food dependency on other animals.
It is more efficient to grow food to feed people directly than to funnel it into an inefficient industry like livestock, which converts one form of protein into another, consuming resources that are finite and essential.

A growing plant-based market reflects society’s growing concern for the condition and welfare of animals.
A plant-based economy makes it possible to remove animals from the equation, thus supporting the consolidation of a more compassionate society that respects animal sentience.

There are several studies that prove that there are many more health benefits to adopting a plant-based diet.
The British Dietetic Association said there is no biological requirement to eat or use other animals at any stage of our lives.
In Portugal, the Directorate-General for Health already recognized, in 2015, that it is perfectly possible for humans to stay healthy following a plant-based diet.

Pedro Andrade

CEO & Founder of Veggie Fest Portugal

Pedro Amorim Andrade is an Executive Director of Communication. Since 2006, he has been leading communication projects of different brands and national and international events.
In 2017, he created the Veggie Fest Portugal, a vegetarian and vegan free entrance festival, with the mission of informing and giving out the tools so everyone interested could change their diet habits. During the festival’s 5 editions, it has been recognized as the largest event of this kind in Portugal and has reached more than 500.000 people thanks to its initiatives.

Maria de Oliveira Dias

Founder of The Love Food

Maria Oliveira Dias is a gastronomic consultant, culinary trainer, author of 3 books about culinary and lifestyle and the television host of Veggie, the first vegan television show in Portugal. She is a Health Coach, certified by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, Plantbased Chef for Plantlab LA and Food Future Institute . She created the current existing blog The Love Food in 2010, and from 2014 to 2018 she managed a vegan food and products factory, selling all over the country.
She is the co-founder and a trainer of the
Hotel and Tourism School of Lisbon. She is also the mother of a 6-year-old boy and she has 2 rescued dogs.

Nuno Alvim

Head of Associação Vegetariana Portuguesa

Nuno Alvim, President of the Portuguese Vegetarian Society, is a project and campaigns manager. He has been actively involved in corporate work and political lobbying.
In 2015, he initiated a petition that contributed for the approval of law nº11/2017, that legally requires portuguese canteens to serve at least one vegetarian option.
He has been organizing and promoting VegBusiness since 2019, the first event in Portugal that is linked to plant-based entrepreneurship.
